Job description

Overview

Position Purpose: The Staff Accountant must believe in, practice and initiate all Green Brick Partners values set forth in an acronym we call HOME. They must be Honest, Objective, Mature and Efficient in how he or she approaches their role at Green Brick Partners.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing timely and accurate accounting records, including various journal entries and financial and operational reports. This position is also directly involved in the month end close process and the preparation of monthly financial statement reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
  • Process and record lot takedown purchases
  • Prepare monthly financial reports to help other departments find ways to achieve efficiencies and reduce un-needed spending
  • Prepare journal entries of both a recurring and non-recurring nature
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Code, process, and analyze corporate credit cards
  • Work with Accounts Payable team to review daily batches and ensure proper account coding and approval for capitalized and operating expenses
  • Code overhead invoices and ensure invoices are properly approved
  • Additional ad hoc projects from management as needed
  • Review and post journal entries prepared by Senior Accountant and Accounts Payable
  • Create new vendors and make vendor changes in Newstar
  • Create bank wires for vendor payments, expense report payments, and lot purchases
  • Contact vendors about converting from payment by check to payment by EFT, track progress, work with Accounts Payable to generate test EFT wires to newly-converted vendors. This is a new initiative and it is a big project.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Assist with property tax database: entering statement amounts, lot closing dates, taxing authority
  • Assist with 1099 prep
  • Assist with system conversion to invoice automation

Supervision of Others: N/A

Authority/Budget/Decision Making/Discretion and Independent Judgment Ability: This position involves the level of duties as described above, or similar, but is not a position of supervisory or management level.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
