Job summary

Extension, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant / Payroll Specialist for a direct hire in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The role combines payroll execution with broad accounting responsibilities within a manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of accounting experience, payroll processing expertise, and a solid understanding of GAAP. A bachelor's in accounting/finance is preferred and a strong eye for process improvement is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years accounting experience with payroll processing.
• Experience multi-state payroll strongly preferred.
• General ledger, reconciliations and month-end close knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly multi-state payroll for ~250 employees.
• Prepare payroll journal entries, reconciliations, tax reporting and compliance docs.
• Support month-end close, GL maintenance and reconciliations.
• Assist with financial reporting, audits, and special projects.
• Identify efficiency gains using Excel and automation tools.

Key Objectives / Role Responsibilities

• Process and administer bi-weekly multi-state payroll for approximately 250 employees
• Prepare payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, tax reporting, and compliance documentation
• Support month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
• Assist with financial reporting, audits, and special accounting projects
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting and payroll processes utilizing Excel, automation tools, and technology solutions

Desired Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
• Payroll processing experience required; multi-state payroll experience strongly preferred
• General ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close experience
• Strong understanding of accounting principles
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Associate's Degree considered with applicable accounting and payroll experience

Salary Information

$75,000 - $90,000 annually
