Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Staff Accountant I to initiate and complete the month-end close for multiple programs, manage budgets, and provide regular financial reports to program managers.

The role requires GAAP-compliant accounting, preparation of journal entries, worksheets and grant draws, and analysis to support funders. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required, with nonprofit accounting or grant accounting preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or combination of five years relevant coursework and experience.
• Minimum of three years of accounting experience in a nonprofit or publicly funded setting preferred.
• Nonprofit accounting and grant accounting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end close for multiple programs and budgets.
• Prepare journal entries, worksheets and financial reports in GAAP.
• Provide financial analyses and assist with budget preparation.
• Assist with audits and grant drawdown.
• Prepare monthly reports for program funders.
• Maintain accounting controls per VOALA policies and GAAP.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Strategic Finance.
