Job summary

Crossnore Communities for Children seeks a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting, GAAP compliance, and financial reporting for a nonprofit organization in Avery County, NC. The role includes general ledger, reconciliations, payroll support, audit prep, and month-end close.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with 3+ years of accounting experience and knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles; CPA progress is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting or finance experience.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll processing, and month-end close preferred.
• Active CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
• Experience in nonprofit and fund accounting principles preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
• Proficiency with accounting software, payroll systems, HRIS, Excel, Office, and Google Workspace.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
• Perform account reconciliations and analyze financial activity.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close.
• Maintain fixed asset records.
• Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
• Support payroll processing and payroll tax reporting.
• Prepare audit schedules and documentation.
• Research accounting issues and recommend solutions.
• Help improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Partner with departments across the organization to provide responsive financial support.
