United Container Company is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant / Accounting Specialist to join our team in Michigan. This role offers hands-on experience across AP, AR, cash application, billing, reconciliations, intercompany activity, and month-end.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree
• 1–3+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, or related experience preferred
• Experience with ERP systems preferred; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a plus
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments
• Willingness to learn new processes and take on additional responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable transactions, vendor payments, and company pay runs
• Manage accounts receivable activities, including customer invoicing, collections, and cash application
• Prepare recurring customer and intercompany billings
• Support freight billing, reconciliation, and related accounting activities
• Maintain customer records, tax exemption documentation, and other financial records
• Assist with account reconciliations and month-end accounting processes
• Provide backup support for inventory, invoicing, and other accounting functions
• Collaborate with accounting, operations, warehouse, sales, and leadership teams
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
• Cross-train in additional accounting functions to provide support across the department
