Mills James is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Ohio. This role works closely with Finance leadership and operational teams to support accurate financial reporting, payroll administration, compliance, budgeting, job costing, and audit preparation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 24 years of accounting, finance, or payroll experience preferred.
• Experience processing payroll and maintaining payroll-related records, reports, and compliance requirements strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with accounting, ERP, or payroll systems strongly preferred.
• Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to read, interpret, and prepare financial statements and technical accounting reports.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
• Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record accounting entries across multiple journals, registers, and ledgers in accordance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including monthly bank reconciliations.
• Process and support payroll activities, ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration, reporting, and compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
• Support accounts payable activities to ensure accurate and timely invoice processing.
• Update and maintain budgeting models and generate job cost analysis reports.
• Open and close jobs and purchase orders (POs) and ensure accurate financial tracking.
• Prepare detailed financial analyses and explanations of transactions for management reporting.
• Collect, organize, and prepare documentation for external audits and thirdparty reviews.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Manage CDA documentation with multiple organizations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to obtain purchase orders and bill against approved budgets.
• Support monthend and yearend close processes.
• Follow established Mills James accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
