Job summary

Brown & Brown in San Diego, CA is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing team. You will perform accounting functions for assigned profit centers, prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end reporting in accordance with BBAG and GAAP.

The successful candidate will demonstrate accuracy, initiative, and strong organizational skills while supporting multiple programs and systems and communicating with internal and external partners.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience in an accounting or financial role.
• Experience preparing journal entries and reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of accrual accounting and general ledger activity.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with guidelines and GAAP.
• Prepare monthly expense accruals and other month-end close entries.
• Prepare and review bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
• Review general ledger activity and financial statements for accuracy and reasonableness.
• Accumulate and analyze financial information for monthly reports and statements.
• Identify discrepancies and recommend corrections.
• Maintain supporting documentation for journal entries and reports.
• Respond to accounting inquiries from internal and external partners.
• Communicate potential risks or delays early to the team.
