Job summary

McGrath Rent Corp in Livermore, CA is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team. You will perform corporate accounting activities, ensure GAAP compliance, maintain internal controls, and support external audits.

The role focuses on monthly close, reconciliations, revenue recognition, financial reporting, and audit support. The ideal candidate has 1–3+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 1–3+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Intermediate Excel skills, including basic formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record journal entries as part of the month-end close process.
• Analyze financial transactions and investigate variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close responsibilities.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany balances and other corporate accounts.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting systems and subledgers, investigate variances and discrepancies, and ensure all assigned reconciliations are completed within reporting deadlines.
• Support preparation of monthly management reporting packages and financial analyses.
• Prepare schedules and reports supporting internal and external financial reporting requirements.
• Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and account analyses.
• Assist with ad hoc financial reporting requests and special projects.
• Assist with SOX compliance and internal control documentation related to assigned processes.
• Ensure financial reporting is in compliance with company accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen accounting processes and controls.
