Job summary

County of San Diego is seeking a Staff Accountant to maintain financial records, perform audits and support accounting operations. The role requires a CPA certificate or a bachelor’s degree with accounting coursework, plus the ability to attach transcripts during the application.

Interviews are scheduled the week of December 14, 2026, with offers the week of December 22, 2026. The starting salary is based on qualifications at appointment, and there are scheduled future salary increases.

Qualifications

• CPA certificate or a bachelor’s degree with at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units of accounting coursework (Principles/Intermediate/Advanced Accounting, Fund/Cost/Auditing) required.
• Must attach CPA certificate and/or college transcript or foreign equivalency report during application.

Responsibilities

• Maintain financial records and perform audits/audit tests.
• Prepare trial balances and review journal entries for accuracy in general ledger accounts.
• Analyze, verify and reconcile accounts; supervise clerical/paraprofessional staff if needed.
• Support higher level accountants in large audits and related tasks.

Education

CPA certificate / accounting degree with 12-18 semester units

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with accounting coursework
