Job summary

A.R. Mays Construction is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Department in Scottsdale, AZ.

The role collaborates with the Controller and Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient operations across the company and its related entities. Responsibilities include general accounting, sales tax, W-9 administration, payroll support, 1099 processing, income tax returns, credit card administration, and accounts payable/receivable.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of accounting experience required.
• Construction accounting or multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Self-motivated professional with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of solving problems effectively.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver accurate results.

Responsibilities

• Complete verbal and written requests from the Controller and Senior Accountant accurately and within established timelines.
• Assist with accounting projects, reports, and other duties as assigned.
• Prepare and file multistate sales tax returns for the company and related entities.
• Manage the collection, entry, and filing of W-9 forms to ensure accurate vendor records and compliance.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and other accounting functions.
• Support payroll processing, employee record updates, payroll tax filings, and 401(k) uploads.
• Assist the Controller with insurance renewals, audits, and documentation requests across all entities.
• Review 1099 preparation reports to verify W-9 collection and entry; assist with 1099 filing.
