Job description

Our Foundation
Geeslin Group has been built on something simple: great work starts with great relationships.

We are a mid-sized, regional public accounting firm that provides tax, accounting, audit, and advisory services to individuals, families, and businesses. While the work we do is technical and ever-changing, our approach has remained grounded in the things that matter most--knowing our clients, understanding their goals, and being there to help them succeed.

Over the years, our firm has grown, but we have never lost sight of who we are. We are a team of professionals who take pride in doing quality work, solving problems, and helping our clients navigate important financial decisions that provide clarity and peace of mind. Many of our relationships with clients span decades, and that loyalty is priceless.

Our team works hard to build the same kind of lasting relationships with one another. Our employees bring different experiences, strengths, and perspectives to the firm, but we share a commitment to serving our clients and supporting one another. We believe in collaboration, sharing knowledge, and helping each other grow.

That is who we are--and why we stand out as a accounting firm that measures success not just in numbers, but in the relationships we build.

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Accountant - Client Accounting Services (CAS) to join our team and help small and mid-sized businesses keep their finances accurate, organized, and on track. In this role, you will handle the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of clients, maintaining general ledgers, reconciling accounts, processing payroll and vendor payments, and preparing financial statements and recurring compliance filings.

Working under the direction of our CAS Manager, the Staff Accountant - CAS prepares trial balances and workpapers for review and tax preparation, tracks filing deadlines, and helps ensure our clients stay compliant throughout the year.

The Staff Accountant - CAS also serves as a day-to-day contact for assigned clients, providing accounting guidance and software support and building strong, trusted client relationships.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and maintain client charts of accounts; record, post, and verify financial transactions and journal entries.
  • Download, import, and categorize transactions from bank feeds and integrated third-party applications.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and subsidiary accounts monthly and maintain balanced general ledgers.
  • Review client information to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies and ensure accurate, compliant records.
  • Process vendor payments, customer invoicing, and accounts receivable collections.
  • Process payroll and prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll tax returns and reports, including W-2s.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, identifying significant variances from budget and prior periods.
  • Prepare workpapers, including trial balances, reconciliations, and depreciation schedules, for review and tax preparation.
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns, 1099s, business license renewals, and business personal property tax filings.
  • Assist with related business income tax returns as needed.
  • Track filing deadlines and keep the CAS Manager and clients informed of upcoming compliance needs.
  • Provide accounting guidance and software support to clients and their staff.
  • Prepare engagement correspondence and deliver courteous, timely, and professional client service.
  • Follow firm methods, policies, and procedures, and record time and work status in our practice management system.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
  • 1+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required; public accounting and payroll experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and the full accounting cycle, including reconciliations and month-end close.
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax, sales and use tax, and Form 1099 requirements.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and other accounting, payroll, and tax software.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple client deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to accurate work and thorough documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and take a high level of ownership of assigned clients and tasks.

What We Offer
