Job summary

Breedr in Austin, Texas is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This entry-level role offers broad, hands-on exposure across month-end close, reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable under the Head of Finance.

You'll work on a generalist set of tasks, touching multiple parts of accounting and light office support, with a path to develop core accounting skills within a fast-moving company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of accounting experience (internships count).
• Solid grasp of fundamental accounting principles (debits/credits, accrual accounting, GAAP basics).
• Proficient in Excel
• CPA-track preferred, but not required.
• Exposure to accounting software (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, etc.) is a plus but not required.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning tasks with a defined process rather than needing constant direction.
• A team-player mentality; this role touches a lot of different areas and works closely with the rest of finance.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end close: prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules under the guidance of the Head of Finance.
• Perform reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and GL-to-subledger recs, and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
• Process accounts payable: code and enter vendor invoices, prepare payment runs, and maintain vendor records.
• Process accounts receivable: apply customer payments, help manage collections, and maintain customer account records.
• Maintain accurate, organized supporting documentation for all entries and reconciliations, in a form that holds up to audit review.
• Help with ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed.
• Provide light office support (a few hours a week) such as managing mail, ordering supplies, coordinating with vendors/facilities, and greeting visitors.

Staff Accountant (BRD-010)

We're hiring a Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Austin. This is an entry-level role, ideal for someone one to two years into their accounting career who wants broad, hands‑on exposure across close, reconciliations, and AP/AR at a fast-moving company. You'll report directly to our Head of Finance and work closely with the rest of the team on the day-to-day mechanics that keep our books accurate and our close on schedule.

This is a generalist role. You'll touch a lot of different parts of accounting, plus a bit of light office support, rather than owning one narrow function.

About You

MUST HAVES:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.


• 0–2 years of accounting experience (internships count).


• Solid grasp of fundamental accounting principles (debits/credits, accrual accounting, the basics of GAAP).


• Proficient in Excel

NICE TO HAVES:

• CPA-track preferred, but not required — we're happy to support progress toward the CPA if that's a goal.


• Exposure to accounting software (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, etc.) is a plus but not required.
