Job summary

Ace Hardware is seeking a Full-Time Staff Accountant at our Headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa. The role reports to the Assistant Controller and supports month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree (preferred), at least 2 years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and experience with Business Central, Sage Intacct, or Workday. We offer comprehensive benefits and a collaborative team culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum 2 years accounting experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with accounting software: Business Central, Sage Intacct or Workday.

Responsibilities

• Receive, verify, and review invoices and requisitions for proper documentation and approval prior to payment.
• Charge expenses to the appropriate accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoices and expense reports.
• Process and code utility invoices (electric, gas, water, telecom) for store and corporate locations, and research billing variances.
• Record, allocate, and reconcile intercompany expenses between entities.
• Assist with accruals and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close.
• Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
• Complete credit applications requested by vendors to establish credit limits, verifying information and providing required documentation (e.g., tax-exempt certificates).
• Assist in the annual audit by preparing assigned reports or providing documentation as directed by the Controller.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Staff Accountant

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to solve problems effectively
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Experience with accounting software such as Business Central, Sage Intacct, or Workday
