Job summary

Ace Hardware in West Des Moines, Iowa, seeks a Full-Time Senior Accountant to join our headquarters team. This role reports to the Assistant Controller and supports month-end close, variance analysis, intercompany accounting, and the annual audit process.

The successful candidate will mentor staff, ensure accurate financial reporting, and help maintain policy compliance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong analytical skills to investigate and resolve variances
• Ability to mentor Staff Accountant and support month-end close
• Experience with accounting software such as Business Central, Sage Intacct, or Workday preferred

Responsibilities

• Review invoices and requisitions prepared by the Staff Accountant for proper documentation and approval prior to payment
• Ensure expenses are reported to the appropriate accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoices and expense reports
• Review monthly accruals to ensure alignment with the budget and proper financial reporting
• Review intercompany expenses between entities
• Review month-end deposit activity in the operations account as prepared by the Staff Accountant
• Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
• Provide explanations of variance analysis across profit & loss and balance sheet accounts
• Assist in the annual audit by preparing assigned reports and providing documentation as directed by the Controller
• Perform other related duties as assigned
