Lingenfelter Associates is an outsourced bookkeeping and accounting firm providing monthly bookkeeping / financial reporting / tax support / advisory services to a diverse portfolio of small and mid-sized business clients across the defense tech, clean tech and various other industries. We combine hands-on client service with strong technical accounting to help our clients make sense of their numbers and grow with confidence.
Position Summary
We're looking for a Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day bookkeeping and support technical accounting work for a portfolio of clients. This is a fully remote role, ideal for someone who thrives on variety — juggling multiple clients, industries, and accounting systems — while maintaining accuracy, deadlines, and a high standard of client service. Must qualify as a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) due to the nature of client data handled.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients: AP/AR, bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow)
- Maintain accurate chart of accounts and ensure consistent categorization across clients
- Process payroll or coordinate with payroll providers, as needed
Technical Accounting
- Apply GAAP principles to more complex transactions (accruals, deferrals, fixed assets, revenue recognition, etc.)
- Research and document technical accounting positions for non-routine transactions
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Identify and correct discrepancies, working with clients to resolve open items
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients, communicating clearly on financial status and open items
- Partner with senior accountants/managers on reviews, client questions, and process improvements
- Help onboard new clients, including reviewing prior books and setting up clean, scalable systems
- Flag risks, inefficiencies, or opportunities for process improvement across client engagements
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of bookkeeping or staff accounting experience, ideally in a public accounting, outsourced accounting, or multi-client environment
- Solid understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting
- Proficiency with accounting software required; experience with Xero, Bill.com, Gusto, or similar tools a plus
- Strong Excel skills; comfort with pivot tables, formulas, and reconciliations
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients/deadlines simultaneously
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication for direct client interaction
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
What We Offer
- Fully remote position with flexible scheduling
- Variety of clients and industries — no two days look the same
- Supportive, collaborative team culture with room to grow into senior/reviewer roles
