Job summary

Marathon Health is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team. In a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, you will support the close process, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls to help the company scale.

You will own month-end tasks such as journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, assist auditors, and identify improvements. A Bachelor's in accounting with 1–2 years of experience, GAAP/SOX knowledge, and Excel proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting plus 1-2 years of experience in public and/or corporate accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CPA or CPA eligible preferred.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Must possess knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the month-end financial statement close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Own key areas of the close process, including month-end accruals, cash, prepaids and other areas of accounting as assigned.
• Assist with preparing schedules for and responding to requests of the external auditors.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to expedite close and strengthen internal controls.
• Assist with special projects and ad-hoc analysis as needed.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Staff Accountant is a team player who is comfortable working in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment and desires to develop professionally as the team and the company grow. The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s close process, financial reporting, compliance and maintaining strong internal controls.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with the month-end financial statement close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Own key areas of the close process, including month-end accruals, cash, prepaids and other areas of accounting as assigned.
• Assist with preparing schedules for and responding to requests of the external auditors.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to expedite close and strengthen internal controls.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in accounting plus 1-2 years of experience in public and/or corporate accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA or CPA eligible preferred. Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000/yr
