Job summary

BLC Communities is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting across our real estate portfolio from a hybrid Dallas-based setup. The role focuses on month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting and collaboration with Controllers and Community Managers.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least two years of accounting experience, preferably in property management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of accounting experience; property management or real estate accounting preferred.
• Strong GAAP and general ledger knowledge.
• Proficient in MS Office and accounting software; Rent Manager preferred.
• Attention to detail with ability to manage multiple properties.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations across BLC’s real estate portfolio including reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting, working closely with the Controller and Community Managers to ensure accurate and timely financial records.

Duties & Responsibilities

The qualified individual will work as an integral part of the accounting team to perform the following essential job functions:

• Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts for assigned communities.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and budget variance reports.
• Support the Controller in preparing and analyzing community-level and portfolio-wide budgets.
• Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Maintain accurate accounting records for each community in Rent Manager.
• Assist with utility billing and CAM reconciliations across the portfolio.
• Support audits, tax filings, and other compliance reporting as needed.
• Communicate with Community Managers and Regional Managers to resolve financial reporting questions.
• Identify and flag discrepancies or unusual account activity to the Controller.
• Attend virtual meetings via Microsoft Teams and appear on screen with colleagues.
• Position may require flexible hours as needed to meet close or reporting deadlines.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of accounting experience; property management or real estate accounting experience preferred. Recent graduates encouraged to apply.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
• Excellent computer literacy in MS Office (especially Excel) and accounting software; Rent Manager experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines across a multi-property portfolio.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with regional and corporate teams.
• Must maintain an active and working personal mobile phone.
• Willingness and ability to present self in a neat, clean, and professional manner.
• Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Primarily an office-based role requiring extended periods of computer use.
• Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, or reach.
• Occasional local travel to community sites may be required.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds (files, records, office supplies).
