Job summary

COPE Health Solutions is seeking a junior-level Staff Accountant in Los Angeles to own projects within the accounting function and help improve processes.

You will manage invoicing, reconciliations, journal entries, and prepare for audits, with exposure to Stripe and state filings. This role offers growth opportunities in a fast-paced healthcare setting and a collaborative finance team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in math, economics, accounting, business, or finance
  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • 2–3 years of corporate accounting experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-driven and capable of managing multiple projects

Responsibilities

  • Manage invoicing and accounts receivable processes
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for bank and credit card accounts
  • Prepare reconciliations of general ledger accounts and supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for Controller review
  • Oversee employee and contractor commissions
  • Assist with annual financial statement audit preparation
  • Manage employee expense reporting and policy compliance
  • Reconcile Stripe transactions and related accounting activity
  • Prepare and submit state tax filings
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies to improve efficiency and controls
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation
  • Provide general accounting, finance, and admin support as needed

Job description

This is a unique opportunity for a driven, detail-attentive, junior-level accountant to join a growing team where advancement is tied to achievement, not tenure. The Staff Accountant will own their own projects and work with the team to identify and address areas of improvement within our accounting function. The Staff Accountant will gain experience with a wide range of accounting and finance operations and take ownership of core operational areas, quickly master new concepts and processes, and handle confidential information with excellent judgment.

Position Description
  • Manage the invoicing and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accurate and timely billing, collections, and account maintenance.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts and ensure account balances are accurate and properly supported.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for review and approval by the Controller.
  • Manage employee and independent contractor commissions.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of the annual financial statement audit.
  • Manage the employee expense reporting process, ensuring timely submission, review, reconciliation, and compliance with company policies.
  • Manage and reconcile Stripe transactions, including inquiries, refunds, cancellations, and related accounting activity.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and annual state tax filings and ensure compliance with applicable deadlines and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and workflows designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce turnaround times, strengthen internal controls, and streamline accounting processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within accounting and finance functions.
  • Provide general accounting, finance, and administrative support as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications
  • B.A. or B.S. degree required, preferred in the areas of Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
  • Preference given to candidates pursuing finance or accounting related master’s degree, MBA or CPA certification
  • 2-3 years of corporate accounting experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Professional, business-oriented communication style
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Detail-driven, able to prioritize workflow and manage projects independently
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively while handling multiple projects on various timelines in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and a dedicated work ethic
Technical Skills
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Management)
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct Enterprise Solutions or similar programs
  • Account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements
  • General ledger review, preparation of journal entries
