Job summary

Island Oaks Tiny Homes, RV Resort & Camping Resort in Kissimmee, FL is seeking a Staff Accountant to join a growing hospitality finance team. You will prepare, analyze, and maintain financial records covering GL, AP, AR, payroll, and cash flow, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance in a fast-paced resort environment.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, at least three years of progressive accounting experience, and familiarity with GAAP and hospitality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Hospitality, resort, hotel, campground, RV resort, vacation rental, or property management accounting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheets, Income Statements, P&L, Cash Flow).
  • Maintain the general ledger and assist in month-end/year-end closings.
  • Record journal entries and perform variance analysis.
  • Manage accounts payable and purchasing processes.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and cash management.
  • Support audits, tax filings, and internal controls.

We are seeking a talented, detail-oriented, and proactive Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the organization's financial integrity, supporting strategic decision‑making, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and maintaining financial records to accurately track the organization's assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, payroll activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow. This role ensures timely and accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, revenue recognition, financial compliance, and support of budgeting and audit activities.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with analytical thinking, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast‑paced hospitality and resort environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including:
    • Balance Sheets
    • Income Statements
    • Profit & Loss Statements
    • Cash Flow Reports
  • Assist in monthly and year‑end closing procedures.
  • Record journal entries and account adjustments.
  • Perform variance analysis and identify trends impacting operational performance.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for financial reporting.
Accounts Payable & Purchasing
  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor purchasing transactions and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinate with department leaders regarding purchasing approvals and budget compliance.
Accounts Receivable & Revenue Management
  • Manage accounts receivable processes, collections, and account aging.
  • Verify daily revenue activity from:
    • RV Site Rentals
    • Tiny Home Rentals
    • Camping Reservations
    • Retail Operations
    • Recreation and Amenity Revenue
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies.
Cash Management & Reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Verify cash receipts, deposits, and electronic transactions.
  • Reconcile credit card transactions and merchant accounts.
  • Analyze cash variances and investigate discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate records of cash disbursements and deposits.
Payroll Accounting
  • Record payroll entries and reconcile payroll‑related accounts.
  • Ensure payroll expenses, taxes, and benefits are properly recorded.
  • Support payroll audits and reporting.
  • Assist with payroll‑related reconciliations and reporting requirements.
Compliance, Audit & Tax Support
  • Assist in preparing documentation for external audits and financial reviews.
  • Coordinate with auditors and provide requested financial records.
  • Prepare and file applicable tax reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain internal controls and support risk management initiatives.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Support accounting software administration and enhancements.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and financial transparency.
  • Assist with implementation of new financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and best practices.
Budgeting & Analysis
  • Assist leadership with budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Monitor departmental spending against budget targets.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business decisions and operational planning.
  • Participate in special projects, growth initiatives, and strategic planning efforts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with operational leaders across the resort.
  • Support special accounting projects and business initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational success.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Hospitality, resort, hotel, campground, RV resort, vacation rental, or property management accounting experience strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA designation or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience with hospitality property management systems and accounting software.
  • Experience with multi‑entity accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Knowledge of sales and occupancy tax reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
