Nakupuna Companies is seeking an entry-level Staff Accountant to support the Finance & Accounting team in maintaining a sound accounting system. Responsibilities include basic journal entries, reconciliations, AP entries, and billing creation, with timekeeping processing.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, 1–2 years of accounting experience, and is a U.S. citizen. Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint and QuickBooks is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares basic journal entries and reconciliations for review.

  • Process billing invoices including Internal Work Orders (IWO).
  • Assists Senior Accountant with new employee setup and data maintenance.
  • Maintains confidentiality and protects operations.
  • Inputs transactional activity for Joint Ventures in QuickBooks.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Overview

Nakupuna Companies is looking for an entry level Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant is responsible for working with the Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager to help maintain a sound accounting system, to include preparation of basic accounting reconciliations, Accounts Payable entries, billing creation, and timesheet processing.

Responsibilities

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

  • Determines operational objectives by studying business functions, collecting and evaluating information, and assessing potential solutions
  • Prepares basic journal entries and account reconciliations and submits to Accounting Manager for review
  • Assists the Finance & Accounting team with transactional functions as necessary, including, but not limited to:
    • Accounts Payable voucher entry and employee expense reports
    • Billing invoice processing, including Internal Work Orders (IWO)
  • Assists Senior Accountant in new employee setup and related data maintenance, including paid time off accruals, labor posting, etc
  • Recommends controls by identifying problems and developing improved procedures
  • Creates and maintains job aides for various Finance & Accounting functions that can be used for training of future team members
  • Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential
  • Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Inputs transactional activity for Joint Ventures in QuickBooks

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Word, Excel, Outlook, and on-line search engines required. Must be self-motivated, efficient at multi-tasking and possess exceptional oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with Government Contracting, Deltek Costpoint, and Intuit QuickBooks is preferred. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar discipline from an accredited institution required.
  • 1-2 years working experience in an accounting environment is preferred.
  • Experience in or work for the U.S. military is highly desirable.
