Job summary

Sportech, based in Elk River, MN, is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Finance team with core general ledger accounting activities and month-end close. You will prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules, while assisting with fixed assets, leases, and intercompany accounting to ensure accurate reporting.

This role requires a Bachelor's in accounting/finance with 3–5 years in manufacturing, strong Excel skills, and high integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• 3-5 years' work experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Unquestionable ethics and integrity – ability to handle highly confidential information.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and strong Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
• Experience with Epicor (or similar ERP).
• Demonstrated attention to detail and high resourcefulness.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, allocations, reclassifications, and other month-end adjustments.
• Support month-end close execution by completing assigned close checklist items and preparing supporting schedules.
• Maintain the integrity of balance sheet and general ledger accounts through timely reconciliations and analysis.
• Prepare roll-forward schedules, aging summaries, and other documentation for accurate reporting.
• Reconcile subledger activity to the general ledger and investigate differences.
• Assist with fixed asset and CIP accounting, including capitalization and depreciation."
• Assist with lease accounting, prepaid amortization, and related schedules.
• Perform bank reconciliations and review cash ledger activity for discrepancies.
• Record and reconcile intercompany transactions with internal stakeholders.
• Provide audit support with documentation and schedules.
• Maintain organized accounting records and support process improvements.
• Other projects as assigned.

Pay varies by position and is based on multiple factors including labor market data and, depending on position, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and/or certifications. Additionally, Sportech takes into account the internal equity of current employees when considering compensation. Sportech's reasonable and good-faith estimate for the range of new hire compensation at the time of posting for this position is between $60,000-$73,000 annually. Pay may also include variable compensation from time to time such as overtime for non-exempt positions, shift differential for specific shifts, and/or bonus targets (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Job Summary

This position supports the Finance team by executing core general ledger accounting activities, maintaining accurate balance sheet accounts, and assisting with timely month-end close. The Staff Accountant prepares journal entries, completes reconciliations and supporting schedules, supports fixed asset, lease, prepaid, cash, and intercompany accounting, and provides documentation for internal controls, audits, and other finance needs.

Essential Job Functions

• Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, allocations, reclassifications, and other month-end adjustments.
• Support month-end close execution by completing assigned close checklist items, meeting close deadlines, preparing supporting schedules, and assisting with post-close adjustments as needed.
• Maintain the integrity of assigned balance sheet and general ledger accounts through timely reconciliations, account analysis, and resolution of reconciling items.
• Prepare roll-forward schedules, aging summaries, and other account documentation to support review readiness and accurate financial reporting.
• Reconcile subledger activity to the general ledger and investigate differences to ensure transactions are recorded completely, accurately, and in the proper period.
• Support fixed asset and CIP accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, asset disposals and transfers, CIP project reconciliation, and placed-in-service coordination.
• Assist with lease accounting, prepaid amortization, and related schedules to ensure balances are properly supported and updated each close period.
• Perform bank reconciliations and review cash ledger activity to identify timing differences, unusual activity, or items requiring follow-up.
• Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances, coordinating with internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies timely.
• Provide audit support by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, tracking auditor requests, and maintaining clear support for accounting conclusions and control evidence.
• Maintain organized accounting records in accordance with company retention practices and support continuous improvement of close, reconciliation, and documentation processes.
• Other projects as assigned.
