This position will support day-to-day accounting activities across a portfolio of properties and assist with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and property-level accounting.
Responsibilities
- Perform accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential real estate properties.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations and investigate account variances.
- Assist with preparation of monthly property-level financial statements and internal reporting packages.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice coding, payment processing, tenant receipts, and cash application.
- Perform bank reconciliations and monitor property-level cash activity.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and assist with depreciation calculations.
- Support accounting for property acquisitions, dispositions, and capital expenditures, as needed.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation and accounting records for assigned properties.
- Assist with annual audits and provide schedules and supporting documentation as requested.
- Collaborate with property management, asset management, and other internal departments to resolve accounting-related questions.
- Assist with special projects and process improvements as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Real estate, property management, construction, or related industry experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and the month-end close process.
- Experience preparing journal entries and performing balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis.
- Experience with real estate accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Experience working with multi-entity or multi-property accounting structures.
