Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of General Ledger Accounting, Journal Entry Preparation, Account Reconciliations, Month-End Close, Budget Variance Analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting functions for a portfolio of approximately 10-12 properties.
  • Execute monthly close activities and ensure timely reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries maintaining GL accuracy.
  • Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate variances.
  • Monitor financial activity and investigate unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual performance and provide explanations for variances.
  • Process and reconcile intercompany transactions.
  • Review accounts payable activity and validate proper coding.
  • Partner with property management on rent activity, security deposits, and operating results.
  • Coordinate with asset management to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Support investor, lender, and ownership reporting requirements.
  • Assist with year-end audits and annual financial reporting.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc reporting requests.

Position Overview

The Property Accountant will oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities for a portfolio of approximately 10-12 properties. This role is responsible for month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, variance analysis, investor reporting support, and maintaining accurate financial records while partnering closely with internal stakeholders.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis functions.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
  • Affordable housing, multifamily housing, or nonprofit housing experience.
  • Experience supporting investor and lender reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of intercompany accounting.
  • Experience with work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting.

The pay rate for this position is $49.70 to $51.23 per hour. Compensation is determined based on experience, education, skills, certifications, internal equity, and market conditions.
