Job summary

Scaled Composites in Mojave, CA is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team and support financial integrity, government compliance, and program performance.

The role leads core accounting processes, strengthens internal controls, and provides analytical insights to program teams and leadership for accurate reporting and informed decision‑making.

A Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of government contract accounting experience are preferred; Deltek Costpoint and Cognos tools are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline plus 4+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong government contract accounting background, including CAS, FAR, and hands-on DCAA compliance preferred.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting concepts: contract types and funding/billing structures.
  • Proficient in computerized accounting systems; Deltek Costpoint strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with Cognos 8 or similar reporting/query tools appreciated.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.

  • Driving continuous improvement of accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
  • Examining, analyzing, and interpreting complex financial data and presenting findings clearly to management.
  • Recommending improvements to financial systems and reporting workflows.
  • Acting as a backup for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger functions as needed.
  • Participating in special projects, research initiatives, and cross-functional tasks as assigned.
  • Contributing to maintaining audit readiness, documentation standards, and compliance across all financial operations.

Summary:


Founded in 1982 by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan, Scaled Composites is an aerospace company continually working to push boundaries, prove out ideas, and influence the future. We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles. We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 40-plus year history such as Proteus, GlobalFlyer, SpaceShipOne, Model 401, and Stratolaunch.


Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Vision at close distances and the ability to adjust focus for prolonged periods (i.e., computer screen)

  • Ability to remain sedentary or stationary for prolonged periods of time

  • Ability to write for extended periods of time

  • Ability to work in an office setting for prolonged periods of time

  • May be asked to carry up to 20 lbs. up and down a flight of stairs on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc.

  • Occasional reaching overhead and lifting up to 15 pounds

  • Ability to converse and communicate information with others

  • Occasional exposure to chemical vapors and/or fumes in low non-hazardous concentration

  • Potential to climb up and down steps on a daily
