Job summary

Scaled Composites is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Mojave, CA accounting team. The role supports government compliance, program financial performance, and strong internal controls to ensure accurate reporting and informed decision‑making.

The position manages the monthly close, assists with ad hoc program cost analysis, and drives process improvements across financial operations. A bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years in accounting is required, with DCAA/CAS experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline PLUS 4+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong government contract accounting background, including CAS, FAR, and hands-on DCAA compliance preferred
• Solid understanding of project accounting concepts: contract types and funding/billing structures
• Proficient in computerized accounting systems; Deltek Costpoint strongly preferred
• Prior experience with Cognos 8 or similar reporting/query tools appreciated.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing the monthly accounting close process.
• Supporting government regulatory compliance, including DCAA audit readiness and adherence to CAS/FAR requirements.
• Assisting Program teams with ad hoc reporting, program cost analysis, and financial insights.
• Driving continuous improvement of accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
• Examining, analyzing, and interpreting complex financial data and presenting findings clearly to management.
• Recommending improvements to financial systems and reporting workflows.
• Acting as a backup for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger functions as needed.
• Participating in special projects, research initiatives, and cross-functional tasks as assigned.
• Contributing to maintaining audit readiness, documentation standards, and compliance across all financial operations.

Summary:

Founded in 1982 by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan, Scaled Composites is an aerospace company continually working to push boundaries, prove out ideas, and influence the future.
