Job summary

CFS, a stable construction company in Aurora, CO, is seeking a Staff Accountant for a full-time, on-site role. You will gain hands-on experience in project accounting, WIP reporting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting under a strong accounting leader in a growing organization.

You will work closely with project managers and operations, handling billings, subcontractor pay apps, month-end close, and detailed job-cost reporting to drive profitability across Western projects.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Construction industry accounting experience required.
  • Understanding of construction terminology and project-based accounting.
  • Hands-on knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting.
  • Familiarity with percentage-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Strong Excel skills including PivotTables and lookups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain project budgets and accurately track job costs (labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors).
  • Prepare progress billings, AIA billing docs, final invoices, and AR documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers on PO's, cost tracking, change orders, and financial analysis.
  • Process subcontractor pay apps, vendor invoices, lien waivers, and surety bond docs.
  • Assist with month-end close including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Prepare and maintain WIP schedules and job cost reports for profitability.
  • Research cost discrepancies and ensure accurate coding.
  • Support percent-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Ensure timely, accurate financial information for leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain project budgets and accurately track job costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses

  • Research project cost discrepancies and ensure expenses are coded accurately
  • Support percentage‑of‑completion accounting and project revenue recognition
  • Help ensure the Staff Accountant function provides timely and accurate financial information to project and accounting leadership
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Construction industry accounting experience required
  • Understanding of construction terminology and project‑based accounting
  • Hands‑on knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting
  • Familiarity with percentage‑of‑completion accounting and revenue recognition
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and lookup functions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, accounting leadership, and other operational teams
  • Experience with AIA billing, lien waivers, subcontractor accounting, or construction ERP systems is a plus
