As a Construction Project Accountant, your primary focus will be supporting the financial success of our construction projects. Although project accounting will be at the heart of your role, this isn’t a narrowly defined position. You’ll also have opportunities to support the broader accounting team, gain exposure to many aspects of the business, and continue expanding your skills as your experience grows.

  • Monitor project costs and help analyze job profitability.
  • Assist with WIP reporting and job cost analysis.
  • Monitor and analyze project labor, including hours by job, cost code, productivity, labor allocations, and labor variances.
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with monthly close and financial reporting.
  • Support various accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, and GL activities as needed.
  • Research discrepancies and help solve accounting challenges.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.

You’ll Probably Enjoy This Role If You:
  • Like understanding why something happened—not just recording the transaction.
  • Enjoy solving puzzles and finding answers.
  • Ask thoughtful questions and aren’t afraid to admit when you don’t know something.
  • Take pride in producing accurate, dependable work.
  • Want to understand how construction projects make money.
  • Enjoy working with people across different departments.
  • Like improving processes and making things more efficient.
  • Are looking for a career where you’ll continue learning every year.
  • See something that needs to be done—and simply do it.
  • Take ownership of your work while knowing when to ask questions or seek guidance.
Qualifications

We’re more interested in your potential than checking every box. Helpful experience includes:

  • Approximately 1-2 years of formal accounting experience
  • OR experience working in the construction industry with exposure to accounting
  • Job costing
  • WIP reporting
  • A/P and/or A/R
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience with accounting or ERP software
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

A college degree is appreciated but not required. Relevant experience and a willingness to learn are equally valuable.

What Success Looks Like:

After your first year, you’ll have a solid understanding of construction accounting, confidence in job costing and WIP reporting, experience supporting month-end close, and a broader understanding of how accounting helps drive successful projects. Most importantly, you’ll have built relationships across the company and become a trusted member of our team.
