Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham seeks a Surgical Technologist to facilitate safe, efficient surgical procedures in the OrthoSports department. You will prepare the operating suite, hand instruments to the surgeon, and assist with patient positioning and draping.

Candidates should have a surgical technologist program completion with clinical experience or a high school diploma with 4 years of relevant work; BLS certification preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider preferred (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR minimum of 4 years of applicable experience.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.
