Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is seeking a dedicated kitchen cook to prepare, cook, and serve meals in accordance with program guidelines and sanitation standards. You will plan menus, ensure timely meal service, and manage supplies and inventories while coordinating with vendors.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least two years of food production experience, and a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Conduct weekly inventories and coordinate with vendors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Responsible for preparing, cooking and serving food in compliance with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. Responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste, and fraud. Responsible for conducting supplies and food inventories weekly and working with vendors.

Deliver

• Prepare and cook food utilizing program’s established systems and procedures for the preparation, the cooking, and the serving of nutritional meals. Plan and post food menus to include three meals and two snacks per day ensuring availability of food items and supplies. Approve food menu substitutions in adequate time for preparation, ensure proper serving of meals, proper labeling and safely storing supplies and food items.
• Maintaining kitchen appliance and utensils clean and in good working order; always maintaining kitchen and dining room areas clean and free of hazard; Complying with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards; Observing proper food preparation and handling techniques; Reporting necessary equipment repair and maintenance to supervisor
• Conducting weekly inventories for major supplies and food purchases, with the assistance of Purchasing Caseworker assistance; maintaining freezers, refrigerators and pantry appropriately stocked; working with vendors on food/supplies.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the program supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Two (2) years of experience in planning food production to coordinate with meal serving hours.
• Completed and current with Food Service Manager’s Certification Program for the City of Houston.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
