Job summary

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) in Aiken, South Carolina, seeks a Procedures/Technical Writing professional to develop and document site-wide procedures and electronic rounds (eRounds) for program and facility operations, ensuring compliance with DOE orders, federal regulations, and standards.

The role supports commissioning processes, collaborates with SMEs, and balances administrative and technical writing duties; a DOE security clearance is preferred or required after award.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field with some experience is a plus; five years of experience preferred, OR Master's degree with two years experience, OR Doctoral degree in relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Process Commissioning documentation to EPFM.
  • Coordinate and schedule Commissioning meetings with interfacing work groups.
  • Assist in review and formatting of Commissioning documentation; write technical documents for Commissioning.
  • Submit Commissioning documentation for Interdisciplinary Document Review through appropriate workflow program.
  • Take direction from Commissioning Management to facilitate objectives and goals.
  • Manage multiple Technical Writing activities with varying deadlines; coordinate with other departments.
  • Develop work instructions and procedures with SMEs.
  • Expected to split time 50/50 between administrative duties and technical writing duties.

Job Family Description

Procedures personnel develop and document procedures and electronic rounds (eRounds) for program and facility operations using organizational processes and software. They ensure procedures include flow down of requirements from Department of Energy Orders, federal regulations, and consensus codes and standards to comply with contractual requirements.

Discipline Description

Procedure personnel are responsible for the development of site-wide and company policies, procedures, and electronic rounds (eRounds) related to the operation and management of programs and facilities. They develop, analyze, and revise existing administrative processes and management controls including standard operating practices, procedures, eRounds, management systems, and documentation. They develop and/or coordinate improved policies, methods, procedures, eRounds, instructions, and forms to achieve greater operational efficiency, increase safety, and to ensure compliance with regulations. They work with subject matter experts to develop new procedures and incorporate changes to existing procedures.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include
  • Process Commissioning documentation to EPFM

  • Manage multiple Technical Writing activities with varying deadlines; set deadlines under pressure and coordinate with other departments.
  • Develop work instructions and procedures through collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

Expected to split time 50/50 between administrative duties and technical writing duties.

Required Qualifications
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.
  • Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be strongly considered
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field with some experience is a plus; five years of experience (YOE) is preferred, OR Master's degree in relevant field with two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field.
Additional Work Requirements
  • Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
  • Evening and weekend hours depending on construction/Commissioning schedule.
Physical Requirements

Able toeasily navigate on foot task of an operating construction site daily to include: Walking, climbing, stooping, standing, in a large-scale construction project environment. Climbing stairsand scaffolding,walking through unevenand roughterrain, and entering confined spaces (as necessary). Performing the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Experience with administrative duties (scheduling meetings, processing paper work, ordering supplies, tracking and coordinating required training) is highly preferred. Technical Writing certification is preferred. PPA Certification or ability to obtain is preferred. BS/BA in Technical Communications, English, Business or related discipline is preferred OR Associates Degree and 1-2 years related experience OR 3+ years directly related experience Education and/or experience in a technical field desirable.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
