Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Virginia DCJS certified Police Officer to serve as a School Resource Officer (SRO) on a part-time basis within the Roanoke City School system. The SRO will interact with police staff, school faculty and administration, parents, and students to lead, educate, and promote safety and positive police/community relationships.

Qualifications

• Must be legally compliant to possess and certify with an issued handgun according to Virginia law.
• Completion of basic law enforcement academy and probationary period as police officer.
• SRO Certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Interact with police staff, school faculty and administration, parents, and students to lead and educate on safety and positive relationships.
• Serve as a law enforcement officer, teacher, role model, and counselor to students.
• Work with diverse groups in classroom settings and occasional outdoor duties.
• Prevent, detect, investigate, and prosecute criminal violations on Roanoke City School property.
