Job summary

The City of Roanoke seeks a Virginia DCJS certified Law Enforcement Officer to serve as a School Resource Officer for the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office. The SRO will engage with school staff, parents, and students to educate, promote safety, and foster positive police-community relations at one Roanoke City School.

Qualifications

• Must have completed basic law enforcement academy and probationary period.
• DCJS law enforcement certification in Virginia required; SRO certification preferred.
• Associate degree in social or police science is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Interact with police staff, school faculty, and students to promote safety.
• Serve as a role model, teacher, and counselor within the Roanoke City School system.
• Prevent, detect, investigate, and assist in addressing student and community needs.
• Represent the sheriff’s office in a professional manner on and around school property.
