Position Summary:
Proactively expand key accounts and secure new business opportunities within the designated territory through targeted outbound communication, thorough quote follow-up, and meticulous nurturing of customer relationships. The primary sectors of focus include industrial, academic, government, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology organizations, supported by a diverse range of products. Effectively articulate Cole Parmer’s unique value proposition in all customer interactions to build strong business relationships across various organizational levels. Continuously identify new business opportunities within existing accounts and actively pursue leads and quotes to successfully close sales. Foster robust relationships with customers to enhance trust and loyalty, ensuring long-term growth and retention. This approach ensures strategic alignment with customer needs, leveraging a diverse product portfolio to drive business expansion and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve weekly, monthly, and annual sales quotas by implementing effective sales and marketing strategies.
- Build relationships to promote sales growth of key accounts through outbound phone, email, or other methods of communication; establish working relationships with end-users and buyers to secure sales.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with multiple customer departments (Purchasing, Engineering, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Quality); identify key players at customers’ organizations; understand and meet customers’ needs.
- Qualify opportunities for new business and expand existing business through a robust sales process.
- Collaborate and partner with other departments (marketing, customer service, pricing, technical service, credit, etc.) to ensure customer satisfaction and bolster the working relationship.
- Understand pricing and quoting strategies to build business and maximize profits.
- Understand the complete territory management process; identify gap opportunities and set strategy to win back business, expanding reach to win new business and determine areas of growth for net new business.
- Develop and set strategy to expand reach within the existing customer base and to acquire new business through customer research, understanding end markets, and the customer’s workflow.
- Attend product/vendor/systems meetings and training to stay up to date on new product lines and current systems.
- Utilize supplier catalogs, online databases, and other appropriate resources to cross-reference products to meet customer order requirements. Make suggestions for alternative products when items are not readily available.
- Assist customers with buying decisions: research product, cross-reference, pricing & availability.
- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities.
- Maintain sales activities, opportunities, and information in the company CRM system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field from an accredited higher learning institution strongly preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years Inside/Field Sales or Technical Product experience in related product categories strongly preferred.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Excel and MS Office applications is required, and strong database experience is desirable.
- Interpersonal skills to build relationships and conduct professional and courteous phone conversations with internal and external customers.
- Must be results-oriented and self-motivated; strives to achieve targets and goals; is assertive and proactive.
- Excellent technical and analytical skills; ability to learn product lines in order to participate in promotions and probe effectively; ability to analyze data and compile reports as needed. Must be able to assimilate data and draw conclusions.
- Must possess a customer-focused mentality to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently to successful completion, meet deadlines, and follow up in a timely manner through excellent organizational, planning, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
- Strong selling and negotiation skills; ability to independently negotiate and manage relationships with various customers as well as execute key sales strategies.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressure, within deadlines or other time-sensitive constraints.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization.
- Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization.
- Ability to travel for training & team meetings; up to 10%.
- Salary Range: $75k-100k, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. Plus commission.
