Job summary

City of Lancaster is seeking a part-time Lighting Technician to design and program stage lighting for in-house, touring, and rental artists. Responsibilities include lighting support for outdoor events, equipment maintenance, and overseeing basic rigging under supervision.

Applicants should have knowledge of ETC EOS/APEX, HOG4, and Expression consoles, and be capable of working nights and weekends. Strong organization and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design and program lighting for in-house, touring, and rental artists.
  • Provide lighting support and setups for outdoor events as needed.
  • Order supplies and maintain lighting equipment.
  • Operate lighting consoles and manage DMX cabling and power feeds.
  • Load/unload equipment and assist with rigging and focus.
  • Train/assist Stage Assistants as needed.

Job description

The position operates under supervision of LPAC Supervisor, and is responsible for one or more of the following: designing/programming lighting for in-house, touring, and rental artists as required, lighting support and setups for outdoor events as needed, ordering supplies, and lighting equipment maintenance.

Hours: Part Time up to 940 hours per fiscal year, 20 hours per week, not guaranteed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May oversee Stage Assistants and Technical Assistants
Example of Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • ETC EOS/APEX 5, HOG4, and Expression console programming
  • Expression console programming
  • Operating ETC
  • ETC gateway network and CEM3 control modules, and various dimmer packs dimming rack technical knowledge
  • Light plot hangs and focus skills
  • Setting stage plots, dmx cabling, and edison/powercon power feeds
  • Counterweight rigging and flyrail operation skills
  • Ability to operate apps
  • Personnel lift safe operation skills
  • Experience designing for dance, music and theatre performances
  • Safe scenic construction practices when using hand and power tools
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Loading/unloading equipment, cases, gondolas, hampers from trucks
  • General knowledge of theatrical stage lighting design and lighting console programming
  • Assist training of Stage Assistants

Education and Experience:
  • Any equivalent combination of two or more years’ education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance.
  • Currently enrolled in a college, university, or trade school majoring in Theatre Arts, Film, Television, or a related field, is desirable.
