Job summary

7-Eleven is seeking a seasoned Tax Lead to oversee fuel tax processes, ensure accurate filings, and manage internal controls across assigned locations. You will guide a team, review tax returns, and partner with operations and accounting to ensure compliance and timely reporting.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in data analytics tools.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervise fuel tax staff responsible for timely filing, payment, and reconciliation of fuel and related tax returns; review tax returns and GL reconciliations.
• Support, prepare, and review fuel/excise tax internal control and financial reporting deliverables including month-end close.
• Lead fuel tax business support; research and resolve inquiries from operations and accounting; communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with process improvement initiatives and performance management aligned with departmental goals.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Supervise fuel tax staff responsible for the timely completion, filing, payment, and reconciliation of fuel and other related tax returns. Specifically includes review of tax returns and associated general ledger reconciliations.
• Support, prepare, and/or review fuel and other excise tax related internal control (SOX) compliance and financial reporting deliverables including month-end close and other required reporting. Specifically includes documentation and evaluation of fuel tax related processes and systems to enhance internal control structure and mitigate tax related risks.
• Lead fuel tax business support function. Research and resolve inquiries from operations and accounting personnel. Includes frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with implementation of process improvement initiatives and performance management programs as directed by department management consistent with department, finance team, and Company-wide goals and objectives.

• EDUCATION: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree
• YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 6+ years

• SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Motor fuel tax, fuel accounting, data analytics (Alteryx, PowerBI prefered), Avalara Excise experience preferred Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with a desire to execute Ability to leverage cost effective technology to implement process improvement initiatives. Effective communicator; ability to work with internal customers and outside taxing authorities Adaptable to growth/changing business environment
