About the Role
This role owns the Linux side of the platform. You will architect and sustain COTS applications running in Linux cloud environments, design the integrations that connect them to workflow and identity systems, and be the person who finds root cause when something in the stack misbehaves.
The scope is broad by design - cloud architecture, databases, identity, automation tooling, and containers all sit inside it. Engineers who like owning a whole environment rather than one slice of it tend to do well here.
What You Will Do
- Architect, deploy, and sustain COTS applications in Linux cloud environments.
- Design cloud architecture and systems across the Linux estate.
- Architect and build integrations with workflow, case management, ticketing, and automation platforms.
- Implement and troubleshoot identity and access management across the environment.
- Investigate log files to establish root cause on platform and application issues.
- Perform system testing and validation.
- Hold a total system perspective across cloud services, infrastructure, and security domains - understanding the relationships, dependencies, and requirements among them.
- Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures to a standard others can work from.
Required Qualifications
Certification and background
- DoDD 8140 compliance. Security+ CE certification at minimum, held at time of hire.
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in a STEM field. [Confirm whether firm or whether additional experience may substitute.]
Linux platform - the core of the role
- Linux expertise. Deep hands-on experience with Linux platforms and with COTS applications running in Linux cloud environments.
- Cloud architecture and system design. [Name the primary cloud platform here. The original left it unstated while listing Azure, Google, Oracle, and IBM as "other" - which implies AWS but never says so. Candidates cannot self-assess against an unnamed stack.]
- Expert diagnostic ability, including log file investigation to establish root cause.
Data, identity, and integration
- Relational and non-relational - PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or comparable.
- Identity and access. IDAM requirements and technologies including Active Directory, SAML, OpenLDAP, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC.
- Workflow and automation platforms. Architecting or integrating with ticketing, case management, or automation systems such as ServiceNow or custom-built platforms.
Automation and delivery
- DevOps tooling. Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab, or equivalents.
- Familiarity with containerized development environments such as Kubernetes and Rancher.
- Demonstrated experience with system testing and validation.
- Strong documentation skills, and the ability to describe complex technical issues clearly and succinctly.
Preferred Qualifications
- API work - designing REST or GraphQL APIs and event-driven systems, maintaining API gateways and catalogs in a cloud environment, and integrating complex systems using message queues, streaming platforms, and ETL pipelines.
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Cloud solution optimization.
- Cloud platforms beyond the primary environment - Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle, or IBM.
- Configuring and instrumenting visualization and observability tools such as Grafana or Splunk.
- Integration of virtualized applications, including application streaming or layering techniques.
- Automated testing within a DevOps pipeline.
