Job summary

Apex Systems is seeking a Sr Systems Engineer to join our IoT team in Bentonville, AR. You will manage Linux-based systems, scale Azure IoT Edge across thousands of virtual machines, and automate operations with CI/CD pipelines while maintaining observability and disaster recovery readiness.

You will work with security, networking, and application teams, exercise leadership in incident response, scripting, and edge computing best practices, delivering reliable, secure infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of hands-on Unix/Linux system administration experience.
• Production experience with RHEL and Ubuntu including kernel, filesystem, storage, and networking troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Azure IoT Edge runtime, Docker containers, CI/CD pipelines, OpenObserve, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Azure IoT Edge devices and modules (edgeAgent/edgeHub) in production, including provisioning, patching, updates, and troubleshooting.
• Plan and execute quarterly Azure IoT Edge upgrade and maintenance activities, upgrading the IoT Edge runtime across the fleet within scheduled maintenance windows with minimal disruption.
• Perform L3-level Linux system administration, including user/access management, kernel and OS-level troubleshooting, performance/capacity tuning, and root-cause analysis.
• Operate and maintain the observability stack, utilizing OpenObserve for logs and Prometheus/Grafana for metrics and dashboards across edge, application, and cloud systems.
• Support disaster recovery execution between primary edge/on-premise infrastructure and cloud-based DR environments, including running failover/failback procedures.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployment.
• Write and maintain automation scripts and playbooks using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, shell, or Python to reduce manual operational work.
• Respond to alerts, triage incidents, and escalate according to runbook procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security, networking, and application teams, on daily operational issues and change requests.

Proficiency in Azure IoT Edge runtime, Docker containers, CI/CD pipelines, OpenObserve, Prometheus, and Grafana is required.
