Role Summary

This role is responsible for ensuring the quality of Rivian's purchased supplier parts throughout the production process by conducting supplier audits, diagnosing defective materials, and managing corrective actions. This position reports to the Manager of Supplier Development and is located onsite in Normal, IL.


Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide quality support of aspects related to Rivian’s purchased supplier parts on the final product:

  • Review production lines ensuring proper use of the job element sheets.
  • Perform supplier quality investigation and process audits to lead supplier improvement.
  • Initiate and follow up on corrective actions and verify effectiveness on site.
  • Review and diagnose defective material rejected during the manufacturing process.
  • Identify the need for corrective action and manage containments established.
  • Support manufacturing shops by providing certified material coordinating with support teams.
  • Provide evidence of non-conforming material to supplier quality engineer responsible of commodity and support with dispositions.
  • Track and manage quality key performance indicators (Scrap, downtime, sort closure times).

What you will be doing?

  • Root cause analysis, countermeasure development and confirmation and creation of engineering quality documentation to resolve and prevent quality issues.
  • Quality confirmations by validating against drawing and other quality control documentation, go and see at our manufacturing facility / installation location or supplier reviewing product performance specifications and performing fit up validation on vehicles or check fixture.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and integrate Rivian’s quality requirements.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering field required.
  • 5+ years in engineering, manufacturing, or other related fields, experience in quality preferred.
  • Technical expertise in automotive manufacturing processes related to Stamping, Welding, Castings & overall BIW.
  • Understanding Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) and datum structures.
  • Knowledge of IATF16949:2016.
  • Working knowledge of Metrology, Inspection Methods and Equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) & Statistical Process Control (SPC) & Control plans (CP).
  • Strong knowledge of 8D problem solving methodology including Fishbone diagrams, 5 Why’s.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, supply chain, or another related field.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  • Planning and prioritizing activities.
  • Understanding of cost and financial impacts.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Illinois Based Applicants: $89,900 - $112,400 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
