Job summary

MP Engineers (MP) is a multidisciplinary firm hiring for NY/NJ offices to support transportation bridge and facilities projects. The Structural Engineering Discipline Lead will guide design teams, develop calculations, plans, specifications, and reports while ensuring quality and adherence to schedules and budgets.

The role requires a PE license (NY preferred) and 8–10 years of progressive experience in structural design, with strong leadership and mentoring skills to support junior engineers.

The Structural Engineer candidate will perform structural planning, analysis and design for transportation bridge, structural, and facility projects. You will develop innovative and practical solutions for basic to complex structures and work with a team of our senior seasoned professionals. The role requires a candidate who is detail-oriented with strong attention to precision to produce accurate designs and plan sets. Multi-tasking and working in a team-based environment to perform work to meet/exceed client expectations in a timely manner, capability of working with other technical design staff in a multi-discipline team environment, and participation in day-to-day design activities will be part of the role. Adherence to MP Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures is a must.

Job Title: Structural Engineering Discipline Lead

Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the Structural Engineering Discipline Lead for assigned projects.
• Lead structural design efforts, including development of calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports.
• Prepare and oversee structural plan preparation and specification development to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Lead and coordinate the activities of structural engineering staff and project team members.
• Ensure structural engineering assignments are completed in accordance with established project goals, schedules, and budget parameters.
• Establish detailed work plans, task schedules, and staffing requirements for structural engineering assignments.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and quality control oversight to junior and mid‑level engineers.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, and regulatory agencies as required to support project delivery.
• Review designs, drawings, and reports for conformance with applicable codes, standards, and project criteria.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; New York State PE preferred.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive and demonstrated experience in structural design and plan development.
• Proven experience leading structural engineering tasks and coordinating project teams.

Skills and Experience

• Extensive knowledge of structural design principles and practices in accordance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYS codes).
• Strong experience in structural analysis, design, and preparation of construction documents.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, establish work plans, and meet deadlines within budget constraints.
• Excellent technical writing skills, including preparation of reports and specifications.
• Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound engineering judgments.
