The US base salary range for this full-time position is $243,750 - $406,250, plus bonus eligibility and other benefits. Compensation is determined by location, skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Overview:

Responsibilities of Sr Staff PaaS Engineer:

1. Lead the creation and maintenance of scalable PaaS systems.
2. Architect and prototype new PaaS landscapes to meet evolving needs.
3. Drive transition towards open-source solutions and develop in-house solutions as needed.
4. Mentor junior engineers and promote best engineering practices.
5. Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness.
6. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and bugs.
7. Implement rigorous testing processes.
8. Collaborate on new features and maintain documentation.
9. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
10. Engage with cross-functional teams throughout the software lifecycle.
11. Drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications:

• Authorized to work in the US.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• 12+ years of experience in data and software engineering, with proven PaaS expertise.
• Knowledge of Java, Python, Terraform.
• Experience with SQL, NoSQL, and related technologies.
• Hands-on experience with content management and streaming platforms like Cassandra, Kafka, IBM MQ, etc.
• Mastery in multiple data technologies and open-source platforms.
• Experience deploying applications in AWS cloud environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of developer tools and SDLC practices.
• Experience with microservices, DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, and IaC.
• Knowledge of data pipelines, security protocols, and open table formats like Delta Lake, Apache Hudi, and Iceberg.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in related fields.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk.
• Proven leadership and innovation in engineering teams.
