Salary Range: $165,000 - $375,000

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $375,000 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range reflects the expected pay based on role level, scope, and responsibilities. Individual compensation will be determined by the hiring location and other factors such as skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Sr. PaaS Engineer, you will:

• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of scalable PaaS systems.
• Develop and prototype new PaaS landscapes to meet evolving business and technical requirements.
• Support efforts to transition towards open-source solutions.
• Develop in-house solutions where necessary.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
• Improve engineering practices through design sessions and code reviews.
• Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks and bugs.
• Implement and manage testing processes.
• Collaborate with teams to define, design, and ship new features.
• Maintain documentation for systems and processes.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends.
• Engage in cross-functional problem-solving throughout the software lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications:

• Authorized to work in the US.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years experience in data and software engineering.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Terraform.
• Deep understanding of SQL, NoSQL, SQL Server.
• Hands-on experience with content management and streaming platforms like Cassandra, Kafka, IBM MQ, etc.
• Proficiency in at least two technologies such as Db2 LUW, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
• Experience with cloud deployment, especially AWS services.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience debugging performance issues.
• Familiarity with developer tooling, testing methodologies, and microservices architecture.
• Effective communication of technical concepts.
• Deep knowledge of SQL tuning and security protocols.
• Experience developing and optimizing data pipelines for AI/ML.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to leverage open-source database and data integration tools.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and monitoring tools.
• Proven ability to drive innovation within engineering teams.
