The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $375,000, plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. Compensation varies based on location, skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Overview:

Responsibilities of Sr. PaaS Engineer:

1. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of scalable PaaS systems.
2. Develop and prototype new PaaS landscapes to meet evolving business and technical requirements.
3. Support efforts to transition towards open-source solutions.
4. Develop in-house solutions as needed.
5. Mentor and guide junior engineers.
6. Improve engineering practices through design sessions and code reviews.
7. Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness.
8. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and bugs.
9. Implement and manage testing processes.
10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and ship new features.
11. Maintain documentation for systems and processes.
12. Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.
13. Engage in the software lifecycle to solve complex problems.

Basic Qualifications:

• Authorized to work in the US.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience in data and software engineering.
• Knowledge of Java, Python, Terraform.
• Understanding of SQL, NoSQL, SQL Server.
• Hands-on experience with content management and streaming platforms like Cassandra, Kafka, IBM MQ, etc.
• Proficiency in at least 2 data technologies and 2 open-source data platforms.
• Experience deploying applications in AWS cloud environments.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and debugging experience.
• Familiarity with developer tooling, testing methodologies, and microservices architecture.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Deep SQL tuning and security protocol knowledge.
• Experience developing data pipelines for AI/ML models.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to leverage open-source database tools effectively.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, monitoring, and logging tools.
• Proven track record of driving innovation within engineering teams.
