Job Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial health of the organization through accurate and timely accounting functions. This role is responsible for preparing complex journal entries, reconciling high-volume accounts, supporting audits, and assisting with financial reporting and internal controls. The Senior Staff Accountant works independently and collaboratively across departments to resolve issues and ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP standards.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Prepare and review complex journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Perform high-level variance analysis on financial statements.
• Support the month-end and year-end close process to ensure timely financial reporting.
• Collaborate with internal teams to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation.
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries.
• Help develop and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems.
• Provide mentorship or support to junior staff when needed.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and relevant regulations.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Excel and ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks).
• High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education And Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required.
• Cannabis industry or high-growth company experience is a plus.
