Senior Software Integration Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Contract: 12 months - Temp-to-Perm
Compensation: $60.75/hour PTO and optional benefits
Schedule: 9/80 schedule
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Integration Engineer with experience and a passion for integrating real-time, embedded software.
In this role, you will plan and perform a variety of software and hardware integration activities involving combat vehicle systems , Linux operating systems, networking, cybersecurity, troubleshooting, and software verification testing.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience integrating software applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and working with hardware/software test environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate and test software applications running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and hardware components on combat vehicle systems.
- Apply knowledge of Ethernet and CAN bus protocols to test and troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
- Build and maintain software and hardware integration testbeds.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and vehicle test teams to investigate reported issues and analyze collected data.
- Perform software verification testing and troubleshoot integration issues.
- Mentor less-experienced software engineers in software integration, testing, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving.
- Ensure technical approaches are consistent with established engineering principles and practices.
- Ensure product outcomes meet customer needs and applicable technical, system, performance, process, and quality requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective customer relationships while resolving technical issues.
- Travel to customer sites as required.
- Work directly with combat vehicle systems.
Required Skills
- Experience integrating and testing software applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) .
- Ability to build and maintain software and hardware integration testbeds.
- Understanding of Ethernet and CAN bus protocols.
- Experience with Git and configuration management/project tracking tools such as Jira and GitLab .
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies used within applicable engineering disciplines.
- Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective customer relationships while solving technical problems.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites.
- Ability to work on combat vehicle systems.
Required Experience
- 4 years of software integration experience.
- Experience integrating software applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux , including:
- Packaging software as RPMs and binary executables.
- Working with drivers, shared objects, and static libraries.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with embedded systems.
- Experience with scripting languages, including:
- Bash
- PowerShell
- Python
- Familiarity with C and C programming.
- Familiarity with VxWorks or other real‑time operating systems (RTOS).
- Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553 .
- Familiarity with UML modeling tools .
- Familiarity with DOORS .
- Familiarity with CMMI for Development .
- Familiarity with the Qt Framework and QML for front‑end GUIs.
- Familiarity with Ethernet‑based protocols, including:
- SSL/TLS
- SSH
- SFTP
- Familiarity with Nessus and Coverity cybersecurity scans.
- Familiarity with system hardening and applying STIG rules.
- Familiarity with the configuration and use of virtual machines.
- Experience using NI TestStand .
- Familiarity with combat vehicle functionality and capabilities.
Education
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Computer Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Science
