Job summary

General Motors in Michigan seeks a Software Engineer specializing in HIL/Modeling to lead creation, integration, and maintenance of simulation models, including plant, sensor, and actuator models, plus Battery HIL benches for BECM and high voltage systems.

You will plan updates, coordinate hardware upgrades, and ensure test benches meet timing, enabling early defect detection prior to vehicle integration. Hybrid work policy applies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering or related field with 3 years of software/HIL experience.
• 3+ years of experience with real-time model design and HIL benches and testing.
• 2+ years of experience with HIL design, modeling electrical faults, and synchronizing hardware with simulated plant models.

Responsibilities

• Lead creation, integration, and maintenance of simulation models including plant and sensor/actuator models.
• Develop and maintain Battery HIL models and benches for BECM, cell balancing, and high voltage behavior.
• Plan model updates, hardware upgrades, and test env rollout for SDV2 and new features.
• Ensure benches meet program timing, support feature development, and enable early defect detection before vehicle integration.
• Adhere to Hybrid Work Policy: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote.

Duties

• Lead the creation, integration, and maintenance of simulation models, including plant models, sensor/actuator models, serial data networks, and controller representations.
• Develop and maintain Battery HIL models and benches supporting BECM, cell balancing, contactor logic, diagnostics, thermal systems, and high voltage architecture behavior.
• Plan and coordinate model updates, hardware upgrades, and test environment rollout to support new features, new programs, and SDV2 architecture changes.
• Ensure benches meet program timing, support feature development, and enable early detection of defects before vehicle integration.
• Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study and Three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineer, SIL Software in the Loop Engineer, HIL Simulation & Integration Engineer, High Voltage Simulation Engineer, or related occupation.
• Three (3) years of experience with: Complex design of models with real time simulation; and HIL bench tools, including ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, CAN (CANalyzer or Vehicle Spy), and Python.
• Two (2) years of experience with: HIL design and integration; Modeling and testing electrical, short circuit, and fault scenarios; and Creating in model, the simulated sensors and actuators (voltage, current, temperature) and synchronizing the physical hardware with simulated plant models.
