Sr Research Program Coordinator

The Johns Hopkins Center for Suicide Prevention is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator to assist with multiple research projects focused on suicide prevention, psychological autopsy, and lethal means (firearms) access. The coordinator will work closely with Dr. Paul Nestadt and an interdisciplinary team, engaging directly with research participants and collaborating investigators. The new Center emphasizes a public health approach to suicide prevention, including interaction with legislators and policymakers as well as direct work in clinical settings. This position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth, including authorship on manuscripts and grant submissions.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

Research Coordination & Participant Engagement

  • Arrange and assist in qualitative psychological autopsy interviews with next-of-kin, including sensitive data collection and note-taking.
  • Coordinate scheduling, consenting, and follow-up with research participants.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, managing IRB protocols and amendments.


Data Management & Analysis

  • Design, implement, and manage surveys and data collection instruments in REDCap and Qualtrics.
  • Oversee transcription processes, manage qualitative data coding processes, and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Conduct preliminary qualitative and quantitative data analyses, contributing to publications and presentations.


Grant Writing & Reporting

  • Assist in preparing grant proposals and progress reports for various funding agencies.
  • Perform literature reviews and contribute to manuscript preparation, with significant opportunities for co-authorship in a highly productive research group.


Supervision & Team Coordination

  • Train, mentor, and supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants and volunteers.
  • Facilitate regular meetings, maintaining clear communication with team members and external collaborators to ensure timely completion of research goals.


Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data management tools (REDCap, Qualtrics), and some familiarity with either quantitative or qualitative analysis software.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing research priorities and timelines.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in mental health research, qualitative interviewing, and/or public health interventions.
  • Familiarity with Johns Hopkins IRB procedures and human subjects research compliance.

Starting Salary Range: $41,300 - $72,300 Annually ($50,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
