Job description

We are seeking an Sr. Research Program Coordinator (Sr. RPC II) for the Department of Health Policy & Management’s Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium Coordinating Center (METRC MCC). METRC is an orthopedic trauma clinical trials consortium which has conducted more than 35 multicenter studies in a network of more than 80 trauma centers throughout the United States and Canada. METRC’s mission is to improve the clinical, functional, and quality of life outcomes for service members and civilians who sustain severe limb trauma.


Primary Purpose

  • METRC’s portfolio of research studies is comprised of large, complex, multicenter Randomized Controlled Trials. While individual study objectives and hypotheses vary, there are multiple aspects of day-to-day study activities and standard operating procedures that are applicable and consistent across projects. Under the direction of the Director of the Coordinating Center, the Sr. RPC will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of multiple studies with emphasis on the components which are standardized at the level of the organization, not necessarily at the individual study level. The SR. RPC II will ensure consistency in approach, communication across project teams, and quality.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop standard operating procedures and e-data collection forms for protocols. Oversee day-to-day activities of support staff on studies.
  • Oversee the acquisition and management of administrative and metadata which is used to monitor the progress and quality of METRC’s study management.
  • Prepare material for subcontracts, task orders, and data use agreements and work with departmental finance staff to ensure effective coordination with the Office of Research Administration.
  • Organize, coordinate, and participate in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and teams.
  • Serve as liaison with research sponsors and collaborators.
  • Assist in the preparation of existing grant reports and adhere to reporting deadlines.
  • Manage and order inventory for research study recruitment meetings as well as office supplies.
  • Manage databases, shared files, and email listservs.
  • Manage Center study-related event planning including selecting venues, caterers and AV technicians.
  • Create and prepare job descriptions and requisitions for RA and staff hiring.
  • Post and announce Center RA positions to various JHSPH Depts, Schools and Hopkins organizations.
  • Complete required federal work study (FWS) paperwork for students and the Financial Aid Dept.
  • Review resumes for candidate selections, set up interviews and make recommendations for RA and staff hiring.
  • Onboarding visiting faculty, students, research staff and summer interns.
  • Manage student research assistants.
  • Manage pilot grant program.
  • Manage workshops, seminar and other center activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for IRB.
  • Participate in developing study budget.
  • Perform self-audits and audits of other sites.
  • Recommend changes to protocol operations based on results and goals.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. Related Master's preferred.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: Min $47,500 - Max $83,300 Annually ($60,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
