Job description

The Johns Hopkins Richman Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Alzheimer's Disease (RC) was established in January 2019 and named in May 2020, with the goal of using precision medicine approaches to improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The Center’s Brain Trust has 15 faculty. The RC has started several ambitious scientific projects and obtained competitive extramural NIH funding as well as a major philanthropic grant from the Richman family and several other supporters.


The Richman Precision Medicine Center is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator (Sr. RPC) to be responsible for monitoring the clinical course and collection of research data on patients entered onto research protocols in the Department of Psychiatry Memory and Alzheimer’s Center. This is an intermediate level position in managing clinical trials and/or registry databases within the research program, responsible for scientific, administrative, and financial issues; problem-solve with the investigators/faculty and delegate to, and oversee, research staff as appropriate.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director and Brain Trust faculty to organize and track RC operations.
  • Work with the Director and Administrative Manager to manage the budget, track philanthropic pledges and revenues, manage expenses and payments, and develop a quarterly financial report.
  • Responsible for coordinating the efforts of research staff working for the various RC investigators, so that RC collaborative projects with several investigators stay on task and meet metrics and milestones.
  • Responsible for the organization, entry, maintenance and accuracy of all clinical research data for complex and detailed clinical trials.
  • Track and support the Director and the brain trust faculty, including maintaining biosketches, other support, etc.
  • Work with the departmental communications to manage and oversee the center website, twitter account and other outreach activities.
  • Interface with Johns Hopkins inHealth staff and operations to ensure coordination and alignment of RC activities with InHealth.
  • Track RC assets including specimen, data, as well as provision of such to collaborating investigators and teams.
  • Develop and oversee collaborations with entities external to Johns Hopkins including development of material transfer agreements.
  • Facilitate RC meetings including announcements, agendas, minutes, etc. This includes regular meetings of the brain trust, subgroup meetings, as well as other center meetings for example research colloquia and seminars.
  • Oversee operational aspects of several field projects and cohorts at the MATC and primary care working with brain trust faculty and other staff.
  • Track and update the status of center projects and other activities.
  • Facilitate, track, and update center equipment and other purchases.
  • Track and regularly update, provide quarterly reports for Center publications and presentations.
  • Be responsible for interactions with IRB’s and other regulatory bodies on behalf of the center.
  • Facilitate, track, update, and report on a quarterly basis on grant applications as well as facilitate post-award grant management working with other departmental administrative staff.
  • Ensure smooth transition of assigned research protocols to new and/or temporary research program coordinators.
  • Centralize and oversee the RC’s administration by managing operations, projects, budgets, and staff.
  • Responsible for scientific, administrative, and financial issues problem-solve with the investigators/faculty and delegate to, and oversee, research staff as appropriate.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Considerable experience with academic research management preferably within the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Proficiency in PC operations and software application such as MS Windows, Excel, Word.
  • Ability to learn new database and software applications is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills required.
  • Ability to follow multiple, detailed directions of various protocols.
  • Must have excellent time management skills.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Have own transportation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Related Master's preferred.

Starting Salary Range: Min $40,900 - Max $71,600 Annually ($50,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
