Job description

Sr. Energy Storage Network Engineer - Renewables

Location: FULL-TIME REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing, focused on the development, execution, and operations of utility-scale energy storage projects.

They are at the forefront of the industry, with over 9GW of projects developed in a short period, currently expanding rapidly, including the addition of a Sr. Network Engineer to the Asset Management Team.

This critical role will support the Asset Management strategy in Operational Technology (OT), Network Engineering, Telecommunication Systems, and Automated Control Systems across the portfolio. It involves hands-on development of network and communication control system architecture for innovative renewable projects involving battery storage, integrated with a proprietary data-driven decision platform.

Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as an SME for network management, control center design, telecommunication engineering, and OT.
  2. Own control systems architecture, integrations, algorithms, network models, based on ISO/RTO standards.
  3. Design and configure LANs and WANs, including hardware such as firewalls, routers, switches, servers, and wireless tech.
  4. Manage fiber optics, Ethernet, virtual and physical servers, ensuring network security.
  5. Oversee OT network performance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and manage third-party contractors.
  6. Assess grid-tied inverter hardware/software solutions, including plant commissioning and construction.
  7. Lead cybersecurity, system recovery, backup, and security audits across assets.
  8. Coordinate with stakeholders, including developers, regulators, ISOs, and internal teams.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or related field (Electrical, Power Control, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, IC&E, Automation).
  • Experience in OT network commissioning, site reviews, and project execution.
  • Ability to evaluate utility-scale inverter hardware/software solutions.
  • Proficiency in telecommunication network design, operational scopes, and technical requirements.
  • Practical skills in network performance diagnostics, packet analysis (Wireshark, NMAP).
  • Knowledge of network security (firewalls, IDS, encryption) with Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco.
  • Understanding of communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP).
  • Strong cybersecurity knowledge aligned with NERC/CIP and NIST standards.
  • Experience designing and maintaining LAN/WAN systems, managing Cisco/Palo Alto/Fortinet firewalls, IP routing, VLANs.
  • Familiarity with OT hardware/software (Ignition, PLC, RTU).
  • Basic scripting skills (batch, shell).
