Job description

Sr. Energy Storage Network Engineer - Renewables

Location: FULL-TIME REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing, focused on the development, execution, and operations of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects.

They are at the forefront of the industry, with over 9GW of projects accumulated in a short period, currently in an expansion phase, adding a Sr. Network Engineer to the Asset Management Team.

This is a business-critical role that will drive the Asset Management strategy in Operational Technology (OT), Network Engineering, Telecommunication Systems, and Automated Control Systems across the portfolio. It involves hands-on development of network/communication control system architecture, integrating with a proprietary data-driven decision-making platform.

Responsibilities:
  1. Act as an SME for network management, control center design, telecommunication engineering, and OT.
  2. Own control systems architecture, integrations, algorithms, network models, and design build-outs based on ISO/RTO requirements.
  3. Lead the design and configuration of LANs and WANs, including hardware like firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless tech.
  4. Oversee installation and integration of fiber optics, Ethernet, virtual and physical servers, ensuring network security.
  5. Manage OT Network performance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and supervise third-party contractors.
  6. Provide technical assessments of grid-tied inverter solutions, including plant commissioning.
  7. Drive cybersecurity, system recovery, backup, and security audits across assets.
  8. Coordinate with stakeholders, including Renewable Developers, Regulatory bodies, ISOs, and internal teams.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline (Electrical, Power Control Systems, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, IC&E, or Automation).
  • Experience in OT network commissioning, site reviews, and project execution.
  • Ability to perform technical assessments of inverter software/hardware solutions.
  • Experience in defining telecommunication network scope, design, and technical requirements.
  • Proficiency with network performance diagnostics and tools like Wireshark and NMAP.
  • Knowledge of network security measures, including firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco).
  • Understanding of communication protocols: Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP.
  • Strong cybersecurity knowledge, including NERC/CIP and NIST standards.
  • Skill in designing and maintaining LAN/WAN systems, managing Cisco/Palo Alto/Fortinet firewalls, IP routing, VLANs.
  • Familiarity with OT hardware/software (Ignition, PLC, RTU).
  • Basic scripting knowledge (batch, shell).
